Swords Named To Naismith Midseason Top 30

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Atlanta Tipoff Classic announced the 2010-11 Naismith midseason list of the top 30 women's basketball players in the country and Boston College senior Carolyn Swords was included on the list. The Naismith Trophy has chosen players from 23 schools as announced on Monday, Feb. 14 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the 2010-11 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy, presented by AT&T, will be awarded on April 4, 2011 at the NCAA women's Final Four in Indianapolis.
Swords, a native of Subury, are one of six ACC Players named to the top 30 midseason list. This is the second consecutive season, Swords has been named to the midseason list.
The Eagles center was an All-ACC first team selection in 2009-10 and was a preseason All-ACC selection for the 2010-11 season. She is averaging 17 points and 8.5 rebounds a game and continues to the lead the country and ACC in field goal percentage (71%). Swords' has earned the All-ACC Player of the Week honors twice this season.
Swords' has reached a number of milestones this season including becoming the first women's basketball player to break the 1,000 rebound plateau. She now has 1,063 career boards. Swords' became the all-time shot blocker with 166 and is third on the all-time scoring list with 1,877 career points.
An ACC honor roll student, Swords is also a three-time Athletic's Director Award for Academic Achievement honoree. She will graduate in May 2011 with a degree in communications.
