Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Boston College women’s ice hockey team retained its No. 4 ranking in the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week. Last week, the Eagles (12-4-1, 7-2-1 Hockey East) traveled to Maine, where BC swept the Black Bears with a 4-3 overtime victory and 1-0 win in the final minutes of regulation.
The top six schools in each poll were unchanged. Wisconsin was again a unanimous No. 1 in both polls, holding onto the top spot for the 11th straight week. Minnesota, Cornell, Boston College, North Dakota and Mercyhurst round out the top six for the second consecutive week.
On the USCHO poll, Bemidji State moved up one spot to No. 7, its highest-ever national ranking. No. 8 Northeastern rose two spots, following a win over BU, 2-0, and earning one win and a tie against New Hampshire. Boston University fell two spots to No. 9 after falling to NU and splitting a series with Providence. No. 10 Minnesota-Duluth blew out St. Cloud State, 5-1 and 10-2, last weekend.
The break for Bemidji St. also helped the Beavers move up two places to No. 7 on the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. Minnesota-Duluth held steady at No. 8, while Northeastern improved one spot to No. 9. BU fell from seventh to 10th, its lowest ranking of the season.
Boston College concludes the 2011 calendar year with a pair of weekend skates against No. 6 Mercyhurst. The Eagles meet the Lakers for the first time since 2006 on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7p.m. and return Saturday at 2 p.m. Both skates are available for a live-stream through bceagles.com.
