The Boston College women's basketball team is on the road again. The Eagles (2-3) will head to Dayton, Ohio to play the Flyers (3-3). BC is coming off a 58-50 loss to Wisconsin in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 30 in Madison.
The Flyers have defeated Bowling Green, Fairleigh Dickinson and Buffalo, while losing to Connecticut, Toledo and Cincinnati. This will be the third time BC and Dayton have played but the first trip to Dayton, Ohio for the Eagles. The first time the two teams met was the 1986 season, when BC defeated the Flyers, 61-59, at a neutral sight.
Last year Dayton defeated BC, 89-77, at Conte Forum on Jan. 3. The last time BC played a game in Ohio was the 2006-07 season. The Eagles lost to Ohio State in overtime, 80-77. Kindyl Dorsey hit eight three-pointers in the loss.
LAST TIME OUT
• Boston College lost to Wisconsin, 58-50, in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
• Shayra Brown finished with a team-high 11 points, while Kristen Doherty added eight points and seven rebounds. Tiffany Ruffin and Katie Zenevitch scored nine points apiece.
• The two teams combined for 40 turnovers, while BC had nine steals.
• Wisconsin held a 30-22 halftime lead.
• BC shot 42 percent from the floor but only 64.3% from the free throw line.
• The Eagles are now 2-2 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
THE 2011-12 EAGLES
• Senior Marissa Mello has joined the team on Nov. 21. Mello was a member of the women's soccer team which advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The team lost to No. 1 Stanford on Nov. 20 in a 2-0 battle.
• Sophomore transfer Tessah Holt is currently 13-for-14 from the foul line this season. Holt is shooting 92.9 percent from the foul line. The team is shooting 75.9 percent.
• Sophomore Kristen Doherty leads the team in steals with 10.
• Junior Kerri Shields, who was named to the 2011-12 Jesuit Team Watch List, hit four three-pointers in the win over Bryant. It was the first time she has hit multiple treys in a game since she hit eight vs. St. Joe's in the 2011 WNIT Tourney.
• Katie Zenevitch is 11-for-12 from the free throw line this season.
• BC is averaging 59.6 points per game. In both of the Eagles victories this season, they have scored 68 points.
• Katie Zenevitch and Kristen Doherty lead the Eagles in rebounds per game. Zenevitch is averaging 5.6 boards per game, while Doherty has grabbed five a game.
• Freshman Deidre Smith is expected to start her third straight game. Kerri Shields, Tiffany Ruffin and Katie Zenevitch are the only three players on the roster to have started every game this season.
NEXT TIME OUT
Boston College will host the University of Massachusetts on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Conte Forum at 7 p.m. The following Saturday, Dec. 10, Boston College will travel to Connecticut to play the Hartford Hawks (2 p.m.).
