Dec. 28, 2011: Day 3 - Recovery
Today was a day for everyone to fully recover from our jet lag and lack of sleep the previous two nights. Being our first full day in the Czech we were pretty busy with two practices and a strength and conditioning session.
On the ice we got two good sweats in while also working on systems to get everyone on the same page after not playing together for a while. In the weight room our strength coach Dawn Strout helped us work on our flexibility and hip mobility, something all hockey players lack.
In the little free time that we had, some people stayed at the hotel and others went out to explore the city. Most of the excitement was centered on the finding of a grocery store that is in a nearby mall. While there, Haley Skarupa almost bought all of the blue Gatorade in the entire store in order to fill her Gatorade addiction. Six bottles might be enough to make it through one day!
Other teams have also started arriving in Zlín, as we have seen the Czech, Russia, and Canada teams around the rink and hotel. The other nations will be arriving later this evening and tomorrow. Tomorrow will also mark the date of our first scrimmage against a boys’ team from Zlín. Finally a game!
Thanks for reading!
