Chestnut Hill, MA - Five Boston College women's soccer players - midfielder Kristen Mewis, midfielder Julia Bouchelle, defender Alaina Beyar, defender Casey Morrison and forward Stephanie McCaffrey - have earned 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors according to a league announcement made this morning.
Mewis was named a first team All-ACC player for the second consecutive season. Bouchelle earned second team honors for the second time, while Beyar earned second team honors for the first time. Morrison and McCaffrey were named to the All-ACC Freshman team.
Mewis, a Hanson, MA native, is the Eagles leading scorer with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. The junior also leads the team in shots (71) and multiple point games (three). Mewis, who was a preseason Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree, has a goal or assist in nine games this season. She currently has 70 career points, enough for eighth place in the BC program history.
Bouchelle, a native of Cockeysville, MD, has started every game this season. The senior is BC's third leading scorer with eight points (three goals, two assists). Bouchelle has not missed a start in two seasons. She has played in 87 career games, second on the all-time list at the Heights.
Beyar, a native of Staten Island, NY, is a first time recipient of an ACC honor. The senior arrived at Boston College as a much-heralded forward and after a solid freshman season, moved to the backline. Beyar will move from the left to the right side depending on which offensive threat BC needs shut down.
Morrison, a native of York, PA, has started 17 of 18 games this season. She has two goals and two assists for six points. Both goals were on penalty kicks. Morrison is part of the back line which has given up only 12 goals and has shutout 10 teams this season.
McCaffrey, a native of Winchester, MA, has played in all 18 games at forward this season. She is the second leading scorer with three goals, four assists for 10 points. The speedy rookie has two game-winning goals including her first ACC goal in a 2-0 win over Virginia.
Boston College, which is ranked 20th in the country by the NSCAA, is awaiting Monday's NCAA pairings (4:30 p.m. on ESPN3).
