Women's Basketball Falls to Arizona State, 79-54

Tempe, Ariz. - The Boston College women's basketball team lost to Arizona State, 79-54, at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday afternoon. BC (1-2) was led by sophomores Katie Zenevitch, who tallied 12 points, and Kristen Doherty, who pulled down eight rebounds. Arizona State stayed unbeaten at 3-0, and took the first game in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Three Eagles tallied double-digit scores as Zenevitch notched 12 with six rebounds, redshirt junior Alyssa Fressle scored 10 with two steals and six rebounds and redshirt sophomore Tessah Holt scored 11 points and two steals.
Kimberly Brandon led the way for ASU with 18 points, while Micaela Pickens scored 12 and Alex Earl notched 10.
It took a 1:30 for either team to get on the board with ASU scoring first on a fast break. BC answered right back as Fressle knocked down an opener jumper. After the Eagles took a 6-2 lead, the Sun Devils rattled off nine straight points to go up 11-6 with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half. After freshman Joy Caracciolo laid it in off a rebound, ASU went on another run, tallying seven points in 1:32, to go up 18-8. The teams traded baskets for the majority of the rest of the half, but Olivia Major hit a three with less than 10 seconds to go to give the Sun Devils 34-23 lead heading into the lockerroom.
The Eagles went 8-for-8 from the foul line in the first half, but committed 11 turnovers and shot 29 percent from the field.
To start the second half, the Eagles made three steals in in the first two minutes, but the Devils still capitalized with a 5-0 run. After Zenevitch put back a rebound for two, ASU went on a six-point run, forcing head coach Sylvia Crawley to call a timeout with just over 16 minutes to go as BC trailed, 47-25. The Eagles came out strong, notching a 6-1 run of their own, but ASU answered with eight straight. BC followed with six, including five from Fressle
In the final 11 minutes, Boston College hung with Arizona State, as ASU barely outscored BC, 23-17, but with the lead the Sun Devils built, the Eagles could not mount a comeback.They were 17-for-23 (73.9 percent) from the foul line, making their first 10. The Devils shot 54.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point land.
The Eagles take the court again at home on Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. against Bryant University.
