Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's basketball program is hosting the annual MEET THE TEAM event on Saturday, October 22 at noon in Power Gym. The team will run through practice from 12-3 p.m. followed player introductions and autograph session. The event is free to all fans.
Below is a greeting and update from sophomore Tiffany Ruffin on what the team has been up to prior to Saturday's event.
Hello Fans!
My name is Tiffany Ruffin and I am a sophomore point guard on the team. In my opinion this is the best time of the year: the college basketball season. Nothing is better than watching thousands of hungry athletes competing for one main goal - to make the NCAA tournament.
This year our team is different in its dynamic and approach. The intensity of the coaching staff is high and although it has taken some major adjustments by our team, I think we have it in us to make some noise this year. We are hungry, strong-willed, hard-working, goofy, immature and young. I know people will question our leadership without any seniors on the roster, but we have experienced players. Kerri Shields, a junior, works hard day in and day out. We see how bad she wants to win. Kerri has been doing an amazing job setting the tone at practice.
Practices have changed. It is a faster pace, more reps, requiring much quicker thinking on our part and by the way - there is no walking.
With the addition of Coach (Tim) Eatman to our staff, the team is learning a new defensive scheme. His ideas and insights are some of the savviest I've ever heard when it comes to defense. I will admit, we may not understand the schemes fully at times, but we have no choice but to buy into what he's saying. His passion is all the reassurance we need. We're learning a lot and working hard. Change can be a scary thing, especially when it's completely different. Change can be uncomfortable but it will make us better.
We may not have the seniors other teams have but we heart. We are excited to see where we are at this point. The team has been practicing hard since October 2nd since we took the floor at Power Gym. The scrimmage with Quinnipiac (October 29) will teach us a lot of things about the team and ourselves. It will show us what we need to do better both on an individual basis and as a team.
Please remember to come see our home opener on Friday, November 11 at 11 a.m. in Conte Forum. We would love the support.
