The No. 25 Boston College women's basketball team will host Dayton tonight at Conte Forum. The Eagles are now 12-1 on the season, while Dayton is currently 8-5. BC is coming off an 80-67 victory over Northeastern on Dec. 30. Eagles seniors Stefanie Murphy and Carolyn Swords combined for 42 points and 21 rebounds in the 12th win of the season.
Murphy, a native of Londonderry, NH, scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. It was her sixth double-double in the month of December. She now has seven double-doubles this season. Senior Carolyn Swords finished with 22 points and 10 boards. It was her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore Kerri Shields added 10 points and senior Jaclyn Thoman notched 11 points and three assists.
BC VS. DAYTON
Dayton is currently 8-5 and has won three straight games. The Flyers are led by Justine Taterman with 15.5 points per game average. Dayton and BC have one common opponent - Penn State. The Flyers defeated Nittany Lions in the regular season opener, 112-107 in overtime.
LEADING LADIES
Carolyn Swords and Stefanie Murphy each notched a double-double in the win over Northeastern on Dec. 30. It was the sixth time over four seasons that they earned a double-double in the same game. The Eagles are 5-1 when Swords and Murphy pick up a double-double in the same game.
The BC tandem are currently second and fifth in the ACC in scoring - Swords at 18.8 ppg. and Murphy at 16.2 ppg. Swords is first in rebounding (8.8 rpg.) and FG percentage (73.8) in the conference while Murphy is third in rebounding (8.6 rpg.) and fifth in FG percentage (57.3).
Swords still leads the country in FG%, while Murphy is 17th.
LAST THREE GAMES
Boston College is 2-1 in the last three games, with the only loss of the season happening at Michigan on Dec. 22. Senior Carolyn Swords leads the team in scoring with a 20.8 average, while Stefanie Murphy is averaging 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in the run. Swords' is shooting 65.8 percent from the floor, while Murphy is shooting 60 percent. The team is averaging 73.3 points in the three games, while shooting 43 percent from the floor.
GAME NOTES
• BC opened the season at 11-0, the best start in program history. The 2004-05 team holds the record for winning 12 consecutive games at mid-season.
• Boston College has outrebounded its opponents in 12 of 13 games this season. In the month of December, BC held a +6.9 edge in rebounds per game.
• The Eagles bench is averaging 17.6 points per game. Shayra Brown leads all substitutes in points per game at 6.5 but Katie Zenevitch leads the crew in rebounding at 4.5 and minutes per game at 16.6.
• Sophomore Kerri Shields has hit at least one three-pointer in the last five games.
• Stefanie Murphy is fourth on the all-time rebounding list with 788.
• Freshman Kristen Doherty leads BC in steals with 39. She has six steals in three games and five in one game this season.
• Senior Jaclyn Thoman is first on the team and second in the ACC in assists per game. Her 5.6 assists per game is a career-high for the native of Highlands Ranch, CO.
• Freshman Katie Zenevitch had a career-high 12 rebounds against UNC-Wilmington on Dec. 19.
