MEN SET 13 PRS, BOGOSIAN WINS HIGH JUMP AT BU TERRIER INVITATIONAL

With the ninth best height in Boston College Men's Track and Field history, 2.03 meters (6-8.0 ft.), senior Jon Bogosian won the high jump competition at the Boston University Terrier Classic on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
The Eagles posted 13 personal records over the two day meet, which were highlighted with IC4A qualifying times from senior Ian Thomas in the 1,000-meter race and sophomore Daniel Kane in the mile.
Sitting in third on the outside, Thomas surged to the front of the pack with about 300 meters to go in the race, but was overtaken by Providence's Julian Matthews heading into the final turn. The two battled shoulder-to-shoulder to the line with Thomas finishing in second at 2:25.63, just 22-thousandths behind Matthews.
Running in the third heat, Kane positioned himself to deliver a strong kick over the final two laps and finish in 4:14.56 - more than four seconds faster than his previous PR.
Sophomore Jack Linehan (4:20.27) and freshman Anthony Bellitti (4:21.72) also posted personal bests in the mile.
Two more PRs came in the 400-meter competition. Freshmen Jack Hennessy hit the tape in 49.93 seconds, breaking the 50-second barrier for the first time in his career, and Joseph Stuart crossed in 50.69. Classmate Bradley Noss competed for the first time in two years and ran a 51.40 over the two lap event.
Freshman Kellen MacDonald won the third heat of the 500-meters, coming in ninth overall with a time of 1:06-flat. Sophmore Kyle Nelson also won his section of the 500-meters in 1:06.12, edging Angelo DePrimo at the line by three thousandths.
In the thrower's circle, senior Mathew Kosmas extended his PR in the weight throw to 17.70 meters (56-01.00 ft.) - an IC4A qualifer - and threw the shot put 12.64 meters (41-5.75 ft.), while classmate Justin Vereen threw for 12.52 meters (41-01.00 ft.) and a personal record of 12.37 meters (40-7.00 ft.) respectively.
BC capped the meet with three strong performances in the 5,000-meter race. Graduate Brian Hughes and senior Theodore Doyle ran in the same heat, running 2-3 for many of the early laps, before finishing strong in times of 15:11.36 and 15:14.52 respectively. Sophomore Akash Chougule had an impressive showing as well, as he demolished his previous PR by over 30 seconds with of time 15:32.21.
Boston College Track and Field will resume competition at the Battle of Beantown on Friday, Feb. 4, at the Gordon Indoor Track in Cambridge, Mass.
