CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College field hockey head coach Ainslee Lamb will be head coach of the 2011 USA U21 team. Over the years she has risen up the ranks of USA field hockey, coaching each team to new success.
She began as assistant coach for the 2009 Junior World Cup team, then moved to the National Camp Director for the 2010 Junior National Camps for the U17, U19, and U21 programs. This year marks her second as the U21 Team Head Coach.
From January 13-16, the national U21 squad of 24 players participated in a training camp at the National Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. From this camp, a team of 18 players was selected to represent the United States for an international tour in April which will involve five test matches against an undetermined team.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to coach the Under 21 National team," Lamb said. "To work with this caliber of an athlete is an exciting and motivating experience. To be mentored by both Lee Bodimeade, Women's National Team Coach, and Terry Walsh, Technical Director of USA Field Hockey, is optimal for my professional development and will provide exposure and growth that can be compared to nothing else."
Freshman Nicole Schuster will take part in her own training camp and competition at the National Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista in March 12-19 with the U19 team. During the camp, Schuster will have the opportunity to play in a four-game test series against the Canadian U19 squad. At the end of the camp, the team will be chosen for an international tour to Chile from April 15-24.
"It is a pleasure and an honor to represent both Boston College and the USAFH program this spring," Schuster said. "The past two tours that I went on were experiences that I will never forget. I cannot even explain what it feels like to wear a USA jersey. Being a member of the team has allowed me to grow both as an individual and as a hockey player. Not only do I have the opportunity to train with some of the best hockey players in the country, but also I am taught by some of the best coaches as well."
