CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Class of 2015 recruit Katalin "Kati" Orban won't have to wait until September to join the Boston College field hockey team. The Plaistow, N.H. goalkeeper will spend the off season training with the team and preparing for the upcoming 2011 season.
"We are thrilled to have Kati join the team this spring as we prepare for upcoming fall," Head Coach Ainslee Lamb said. "The transition with the goalkeeping skills and decision making at the collegiate level are extremely challenging, and the exposure this spring will be fantastic for her to accelerate that imperative learning curve. We were confident as a staff, with the support of her parents and input from her high school coach combined with the determination and desire of Kati, that this spring opportunity was the right decision for her."
Orban comes to The Heights from the Timberlane Regional High School where she was the varsity goalie. During her senior season she recorded a 1.06 goals against average and an .860 save percentage while tallying six shutouts.
During her high school career Orban experienced great success. In 2009 her team was crowned New Hampshire State Class L Champions with a perfect 19-0 season and in 2010, she was a New Hampshire All-State Selection in addition to a National Field Hockey Coaches All-Region Selection. She was also named to the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune and Manchester Union-Leader's All-Star teams. To end her time in goal at Timberlane, she was named team co-MVP and was the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Month in October.
"Kati possesses the winning qualities of dedication, persistence and self motivation to accept the challenges that BC field hockey will present," Timberlane Head Coach Mim Ryan said. "With an already established skill set and even keel personality, and her willingness and desire to learn, Kati should enjoy a successful collegiate career."
In addition to playing for her high school, Orban spent five years competing with the Seacoast United Field Hockey Club and four years with the USFHA Futures squad. During that time she played on the National Futures Championship Region I Teams from 2007-10, and competed in the Junior Olympics, winning bronze in 2008 and gold in 2009. She has also played for the Futures Elite team since 2009.
In 2008 she attended the Junior National Camp and was named a U16 National Team alternate. She won gold at the National Hockey Festival in 2008 and 2009 with the U16 team. She also played in the National Indoor Tournament in 2008 and 2009. Orban attended the Disney Field Hockey Tournament in 2009. She is also a 2010 New England Junior High Performance training squad member.
An honor roll student and 2010 NFHCA All-Academic Team selection, Orban is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences as an Economics and Communications double major.
