Women's Basketball Prepares For No. 13 Maryland

The Boston College women's basketball team beat the storm by leaving Tuesday afternoon for Maryland. The Eagles (13-3, 0-1) will practice on Wednesday afternoon at the Comcast Center in preparation for Thursday's game against the No. 13 Maryland (13-2, 0-1).
BC is coming off a one-point loss to No. 8 UNC, 84-83, at Conte Forum on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Kerri Shields led the Eagles with 18 points, while senior Stefanie Murphy notched her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Maryland is coming off of a 71-64 loss at No. 3/3 Duke last Thursday. Junior Kim Rodgers led the Terrapins with her career-high 18 points.
BC VS. MARYLAND
Maryland leads the all-time series vs. BC, 9-1. BC broke into the win column last season when the Eagles defeated the Terps, 83-70, at Conte Forum on Feb. 15, 2010. Carolyn Swords had 24 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
ON THE BOARDS Boston College has won the battle of the boards in 14 of 16 games this season. The Eagles season -high was 51 vs. Sacred Heart on Nov. 27.
LAST THREE GAMES
The Eagles are 1-2 in the last three games with losses to Dayton (77- 89) and No. 8 North Carolina (83-84). The Eagles are averaging 80 points but also 19.0 turnovers in the stretch. Boston College has also let up 83.7 points and the teams are shooting 45 percent from the floor in the last three games ... Senior Stefanie Murphy is leading the Eagles with a 19.7 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. She is shooting 52 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the three-point line ... Carolyn Swords is averaging just 13.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in the stretch ... Jaclyn Thoman is averaging just 7.3 points and 6.0 assists.
TEAM LEADERS
Senior Carolyn Swords leads the Eagles in scoring with 17.2 points per game average. Right behind Swords is senior Stefanie Murphy who is averaging 16.3 ppg. Murphy leads the team in rebounding at 8.9 boards per game with Swords at 8.6 ... Senior Jaclyn Thoman leads the Eagles in assists with a career-high average of 5.5 apg. ... Freshman Kristen Doherty leads the team in steals with 41 ... Sophomore Kerri Shields leads the team in 3-point field goals made with 44, while Thoman has the top 3-pt. field goal percentage at 43.2 percent ... Shields is No. 1 on the team in minutes played with a 30.5 average.
TEAM NOTES
• BC is second in the ACC and fifth in the country in scoring with an 85.3 average.
• In 2009-10 the Eagles scored 80 or more points seven times. This season BC has scored 80 or more points 14 times.
• The Eagles are fifth in the country in assists with a 19.6 average. The team has handed out 20 or more assists in nine games this season.
• BC opened the season at 11-0, the best start in program history. The 2004-05 team holds the record for winning 12 consecutive games at mid-season.
• Junior Marissa Mello is the newest member of the Eagles family. Mello, a native of Somerset, MA, played for the women's soccer team this past season and joined the basketball team in December.
• Boston College won the battle of the boards in 14 of 16 games this season.
• Sophomore Kerri Shields has hit at least one three-pointer in the last eight games.
• Freshman Katie Zenevitch notched a career-high 13 points (3-for-3 from the 3-point line) vs. UNC.
