Boston College sophomore Kristen Mewis scored a first half goal which stood for 90 minutes as the Eagles defeated NC State, 1-0, in an ACC match in Raleigh, North Carolina. The No. 4 Eagles improved 9-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The 1-0 win over NC State helped BC avoid a letdown after the Eagles defeated No. 1 North Carolina on Thursday night. The Eagles are currently 3-0 at the tail end of a four-game road trip. The final road game is on Sunday, October 3 at Virginia.
Mewis, a second year midfielder, scored at the 20 minute mark in the first half. She connected on a pass from sophomore Victoria DiMartino. Mewis extended her point-scoring streak to eight games. She now has six goals and six assists this season. I The Eagles outshot NC State, 7-1, in the first half. It was also the first goal given up in the first half by NC State all season.
In the second half NC State's best chance came from Kara Baldy whose header hit the cross bar in the 53rd minute of the game.
BC had a couple of solid chances in the second half. The best came from DiMartino who had three consecutive chances on Pack goalkeeper Kim Kern in the 63rd minute of the match. Kern had 10 saves in the loss.
Boston College finished the game with a 14-4 edge in shots and 6-3 in corner kicks. DiMartino led the offense with five shots, four on goal. Amy Caldwell, Kristen Mewis and Brooke Knowlton each had two shots in the game for the Eagles. Eagles' goalkeeper Jillian Mastroinni had one save in her fifth shutout of the season.
