Chestnut Hill, MA - The No. 4 Boston College women's soccer team improved to 7-0-1 as the Eagles rolled past former Big East foe Rutgers, 3-1, in Piscataway, New Jersey. It was the first of four road games for the Eagles. BC will head to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to play the No. 1 Tar Heels on Thursday, Sept. 23.
Junior Stephanie Wirth opened the scoring for the Eagles in the 30th minute of the match. Victoria DiMartino set up the goal by taking the ball into the box and releasing it to set up Worth for her first goal of the season. The goal was significant as Wirth missed two games with an ankle injury. This was her second game back in action.
The Eagles went up 2-0 in the 49th minute. Junior Alaina Beyar started the play as she connected with Kristie Mewis, who then crossed the ball into the box to Brooke Knowlton. The senior from New York deposited a one-timer by the Rutgers goalkeeper Emmy Simkins (four saves). It was Knowlton's fifth goal of the season.
Senior Amy Caldwell gave BC a 3-0 lead in the 85th minute when she knocked home a rebound off the crossbar. Knowlton took the initial shot and Caldwell, a native of Braintree, MA, notched her second goal of the season on the rebound.
BC gave up its second goal of the season in the 86th minute when Rutgers forward Kelsey Dumont scored off a loose ball in the box.
The Eagles had 26 shots and held the Scarlet Knights to eight shots. BC had nine corner kicks to five for Rutgers. Junior goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni improved to 7-0-1 and made three saves. She now has a goals-against-average of 0.25.

Sophomore Kristen Mewis extended her point-scoring streak to six games, while sophomore Victoria DiMartino and senior Amy Caldwell each have a three-game point scoring streak ... Since returning to the lineup vs. Fairfield, senior Brooke Knowlton scored five goals and has one assist in three games ... Junior goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni improved to 7-0-1 and has a goals-against-average of .025.
