Women's Soccer Selected Second In ACC Preseason Coaches' Poll

Chestnut Hill, MA - The 2010 Boston College Women's Soccer team has been selected second by the 11 coaches in the preseason soccer poll, according to an announcement by the ACC office today.
The Eagles, 18-4-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the conference last season, return nine starters and will add six incoming freshmen to the 2010 roster.
In 2009 Boston College advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament and was ranked seventh in the final NSCAA and Soccer America polls. The Eagles also return a bulk of their offense as Victoria DiMartino (14 goals, six assists), who was the ACC Freshman of the Year, and senior Brooke Knowlton (eight goals, four assists) combined for 22 goals and 10 assists last season.
BC also returns their starting goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni, who finished the season with a career-high 14 shutouts and a goals-against-average of 0.53. In front of Mastroianni, the Eagles return three of four defenders in senior captain Hannah Cerrone, senior captain Chelsea Regan, junior Alyssa Pember and junior Alaina Beyar. Other key returners include seniors Amy Caldwell, junior Julia Bouchelle, senior Natalie Crutchfield and sophomore Kristie Mewis.
In other women's soccer news, the 2010 Boston College team will arrive on campus this afternoon, Friday, August 6 for a number of team meetings and a team barbeque. The players will begin training on Saturday, August 5 at the Newton Soccer Complex.
The Eagles will scrimmage Connecticut on Saturday, August 14 in Storrs, Connecticut (7 p.m.). BC will then open the 2010 season on Friday, August 20 when the Eagles host Stanford at the Newton Soccer Complex (7 p.m.).
