CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - It was an eventful summer for two BC field hockey players as returning starter and senior captain Emily Kozniuk and incoming freshman Paige Norris won the Canadian National Championship this summer. The two natives played together for last year's defending champions British Columbia.
British Columbia encountered some tough opponents earlier in the tournament, none more so than Ontario. In previous pool play, British Columbia had tied Ontario and now in the finals, faced them for the second time. Though it was a close match, British Columbia came out on top 3-2.
"Representing your province is always an honor, but to win the National Championship just makes it that much more special," said Kozniuk.
For Norris, the summer experience was invaluable as she prepares for her first collegiate action with the Eagles.
"It was a great experience getting to play both with and against the best players in Canada...I enjoyed getting the opportunity to play on the senior team with more experienced players," said Norris.
The players will take their experience back to BC as the team gears up for their first scrimmage on Friday August 20, 2010 at University of Connecticut.
