Kristen Mewis Named Player Of The Match

Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College sophomore Kristen Mewis helped the US Under-20 Women's National Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup with a 1-0 win over Korea Republic on Wednesday, July 21 in Germany.
Mewis, a native of Hanson, MA, was named the Player of the Match in the victory. The Eagles midfielder has notched a goal and an assist in four games. She scored the game-winner in the second match against Switzerland.
The US team won first place in the group with seven points, Korea was second with six and Ghana had four points. Switzerland exits the tournament without a point or a goal.
The US will now face Group C runner-up Nigeria in the quarterfinals on July 25 in Augsburg (5:30 a.m. ET on ESPNU).
The match against the Nigerians will mark the first time the USA has faced an African team in the knockout rounds of a FIFA Women's World Cup competition.
