Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College field hockey team enjoyed success during the 2009 season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four years. It seems like the hard work the players and coaches are putting in throughout the year is paying off.
In the summer of 2009 eight players competed through the summer as well as the coaching staff leading various US Field Hockey teams. This summer, nine current members of the team along with five incoming freshmen will be on the field.
US Field Hockey hosts the High Performance National Championship over the summer for college student-athletes to develop in their respective regions to compete for and make the National training squad. The National Tournament will run from June 20-26 in Virginia Beach.
BC will be represented on the Boston Senior High Performance Team by graduate students Kristine Stigas and Jenny Raftery along with seniors Janna Anctil and Jess Roberts, junior Courtney Tavener and incoming freshman Chapin Duke.
The New England Junior High Performance Team will be led by junior goalkeeper Nicole Barry, junior Catherine O'Brien, sophomore Kara Mackintire and incoming freshman Virgynia Muma.
Incoming freshman Nicole Schuster will be a member of the Pennsylvania Junior High Performance Team, while Eleni Andromidas will be on the New York Futures roster.
Senior Emily Kozniuk, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia is playing in the Canadian National Championship along with incoming freshman Paige Norris, who hails from Victoria, B.C.
The Boston College coaching staff is also involved in the High Performance program as Eagles Head Coach Ainslee Lamb will lead the Boston Senior Women's Team, while Chris Clements will serve as an assistant. Lamb is also the head coach of the US Under-21 team.
BC's goalkeeper coach Carolyn Cahill will handle goalkeeping coaching role with the Junior High Performance teams.
