Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College women's basketball coach Sylvia Crawley announced the addition of two transfer student-athletes - 5-foot-10 guard Alyssa Fressle and 5-foot-5 guard Tessah Holt to the Eagles roster. Fressle and Holt will sit out the 2010-11 season due to NCAA rules. Fressle will have two years of eligibility remaining, while Holt will have three years at the Heights.
"I am excited about our newest additions. Both of our transfers will fit right in with the work ethic and championship mentality that we currently have and will continue to recruit at Boston College," said Eagles Head Coach Sylvia Crawley.
Fressle, a native of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, played two years at the University of Colorado. She averaged 28.1 minutes, 3.0 rebounds and 7.8 points as a sophomore. As a freshman, Fressle was named to the 2009 All-Big 12 Conference Rookie team, while leading all conference freshmen in assists (3.4 apg.), steals (1.8 spg.) and minutes played (30.9 mpg.).
A former high school teammate of current Eagles point guard Jaclyn Thoman, Fressle recorded 59 career games, 7.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in two seasons at Colorado.
"Alyssa is a self-driven leader. She wants to be challenged and pushed every single day to get better. Her mentality, competitiveness, and desire are what we like so much about her. Alyssa's skills are simply icing on the cake, `' said Crawley. "I believe Alyssa is a rare gem that you seldom come across. She's the type of player you hate to practice against but happy she is on your team!"
Tessah Holt, a native of Fayette County, GA, joins the Eagles after playing one season at Florida. Holt is a true point guard who led Fayette County to an impressive 31-1 season in 2009. She averaged 12.7 points, 7.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 steals as a senior. She earned All-State first team honors, Metro Naismith Winner in 2009 and selected first team All-Region team for 5-AAAA. Holt was also the MVP in the Arrowhead Tournament, the St. Pius X Christmas Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team for the Crescent Bank Classic in South Carolina.
While at Florida, Holt played in 29 games, averaged 6.6 minutes per game, one rebound and 1.3 points per game. Holt did shoot 83.3 percent from the free throw line in her first season.
"Tessa is a vocal leader and floor general who loves to create and distribute the ball,'' said Crawley. "Our post players will love her because they will not have to work so hard to make plays with their back to the basket. Tessa is an up-tempo guard who likes to press defensively, and who understands how to break presses as well."
The 2010-11 Eagles will return three starters 6-foot-6 Carolyn Swords, 6-foot-4 Stefanie Murphy and 5-foot-9 Jaclyn Thoman.
