Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College's Kristen Mewis scored both goals for the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team in a 2-2 tie with the Boston Breakers of WPS during a training camp in Gainesville, Fla. last week.
Mewis, a sophomore on the women's soccer team, opened the scoring in the 18th minute when she struck the ball low to the near post from six yards out. The shot skipped by the diving Breakers goalkeeper.
The Hanson, Ma. native tied the game in the 57th minute when she struck the ball with the side of her foot and placed it into the upper left corner of the goal. Mewis has had a tremendous first season with the Eagles. She was an ACC All-Freshman team honoree and was named to the 2009 NSCAA All-Southeast Region first team. Mewis finished her freshman campaign with five goals, six assists for 16 points.
BC freshman Victoria DiMartino was also on the field in the 2-2 tie against the Breakers. DiMartino played 84 minutes on the defensive side for the Under-20 team. This was the second time in a month Mewis and DiMartino played against the Breakers. BC hosted the pro team on March 10 at the Newton Campus Field. The match ended in a 0-0 tie.
Boston College's next spring competition will be at the Bean Pot on Sunday, March 27 at Northeastern.
