CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 2009 Boston College women's cross country team had two of its members recently honored for their work in the classroom this season. Freshman Jillian King was named to the USTFCCCA 2009 Division I Cross Country All-Academic Team, and senior Lauren Johnston took home 2009 ACC Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team honors.
King, who is a pre-med major, is the first Boston College women's cross country runner to be named to the USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country All-Academic team since Mallory Champa received the honor in 2006.
The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must finish among the top 15 finishers (or top 10 percent) of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet. The 104 USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees represent 57 schools around the country.
Johnston, who is a biology major, was the only BC cross country runner to earn ACC honors.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
