Women's Basketball Earns 83-70 Victory Over Maryland

Boston College junior Jaclyn Thoman hit four foul shots and a three-pointer in the final minute of the game to help the Eagles earn a 83-70 victory over Maryland in ACC action. Thoman finished with a career-high 18 points as the Eagles improved to 15-13 on the season and 6-7 in the ACC. This was the first time BC defeated Maryland in 11 games.
Along with Thoman, Carolyn Swords finished with a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) while Brittanny Johnson added 16 points and five boards, Mickel Picco notched 17 points and Stefanie Murphy added 11 points. Senior Ayla Brown added 10 rebound in the win.
Maryland was led by Lynetta Kizer had 19 points, while Diandra Tchatchouang added 14 points and Anjalie Barrett notched 11 points.
The Eagles opened the second half with an 18-11 run giving the Eagles a 53-44 lead at 13:59 in the game. Johnson had seven points in the run to keep the Eagles in the lead. At 11:34, Boston College held a 57-48 lead after a three-pointer from Picco and two foul shots from Swords.
BC took a 63-55 lead at 7:03 to play as the Eagles pounded the ball inside to Swords who hit three consecutive layups. Two foul shots from Barrett cut the BC lead to eight point but Swords gave BC a 10 point lead with two more foul shots with 4:58 to play. With 4:58 to play Swords hit two foul shots and BC was up 10 points. Swords scored 13 of her points in the half.
Maryland's Barreet and Hawkins hit jumpers to cut the BC lead to 72-66 with two minutes to play. But Thoman and Picco hit foul shots and Thoman had four foul shots and a three-pointer to seal the win in the final minute of play.
Boston College held a 35-21 halftime lead behind nine points from Thoman and seven points apiece from Murphy and Johnson. The Eagles pulled ahead on a 13-0 run in the middle of the half sparked by five points from Murphy. The Eagles shot s 36 percent from the floor while Maryland shot 44 percent from the field. Maryland was led Tchatchouang had 10 points and Kizer added nine.
BC shot 43 percent for the game but 54 percent in the second half. The Eagles were 5-for-6 from the three-point line in the second half. BC was also solid at the foul line, hitting 18 of 19 attempts in the game. The Eagles held the Terps to just 38 percent shooting from the field.
