Five Boston College field hockey players – Chelsey Feole, Caitlin McGovern, Kristine Stigas, Janna Anctil and Jessica Roberts - have earned 2009 ACC All-Academic Team honors, the conference office announced.
Feole leads the list of Eagles as she is a three-time honoree. Anctil is a two-time honoree, while McGovern, Stigas and Roberts are all first-time members of this prestigious honor.
To qualify for selection to the ACC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point-average for the fall semester and have maintained a 3.0 GPA for their careers.
The 2009 Boston College field hockey team had one of its best seasons in recent history. The team qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005, and finished the season ranked ninth in the nation with a 13-7 record.
Duke led all programs with eight players named to the academic team. Maryland had six players honored, which was good enough for second most in the league. Boston College came in third with five athletes making the squad. Virginia and North Carolina, the 2009 NCAA Champions, tied for fourth with four players each and Wake Forest rounded out the list with three student-athletes.
The Boston College field hockey team has had five or more of its players named as All-ACC Academic Team members in each of its last three seasons.
