BC vs. New Hampshire Box Score
The Boston College women's hockey team defeated No. 4 New Hampshire, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.
The Eagles are now 8-15-10 while the Wildcats fall to 18-7-5.
Boston College wasted no time in pressuring the New Hampshire goalie as the Eagles outshot the Wildcats 13-6 in the first period. Sophomore goalie Kiera Kingston's strong play in net prevented UNH from grabbing the game's first score as the Eagles and Wildcats would take a 0-0 game into the first intermission
The Wildcats responded to BC by pushing their momentum up a notch to try and grab the first score of the game. New Hampshire was able to outshoot the Eagles 13-10 in the second period but the two goalies were unfazed despite the action. Senior forward Allie Thunstrom's five shots led both teams in that category through two periods.
Boston College grabbed the first goal of the game at 3:52 of the third period thanks to Thunstrom's league leading, 21st goal of the season off a feed from junior Katelyn Kurth. Sophomore Danielle Welch added an unassisted tally 10 minutes later to make it 2-0. UNH scored two minutes later to pull within one, but the Eagles would hold on for the win.
Sophomore goalie Kiera Kingston made 27 saves on the day as the Eagles outshot New Hampshire 33-28.
The Eagles and Wildcats will play tomorrow night, Sunday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass. It will be the final regular season contest for both teams, and each will honor its seniors prior to the opening faceoff.
