Softball Receives Four National Letters of Intent

The Boston College softball received four National Letters of Intent (NLI) from recruits this fall. Joining the Eagles for the 2011-12 campaign will be infielders Caila Chirichingo (Costa Mesa, Calif.), Chelsea Dimon (Burlington, N.J.) and Andrea Filler (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and outfielder Annie Sommers (Arcadia, Calif.).
"We are excited to welcome these four additions to our softball family," Head Coach Jen Finley stated. "All four are tremendous student-athletes with great work ethics and strength of character. All are considered to be impact players who, like us, are very excited to be members of the Boston College Softball Family."
Caila Jenee"CJ" Chirichigno - Mater Dei, SS, Santa Ana, Calif.
A three-year varsity shortstop, Chirichigno led Mater Dei to consecutive Trinity League Championships and been named to the First-Team All-Trinity League twice over the past two seasons. She was honored as the Foothill All-Tournament Player in 2009 and the Santiago Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2010. As a member of the SoCal Explosion, she boasts a batting average over .300 an .914 fielding percentage. In the classroom, Chirichigno has been recognized as a scholar-athlete three years running. She also participates in Campus Ministry, the Red Cross Club and Pacific Life Good Guys.
Chelsea Dimon - Notre Dame, P/1B, Lawrenceville, N.J.
Since her freshman year, Dimon has led the Colonial Valley Conference (CVC) in strikeouts per game, wins and winning percentage. Over the past two seasons, the 2010 Trentonian Player of the Year led the Irish to a pair of CVC championships en route to finishing as the runner-up in the South Jersey Parochial Region. Last year, Dimon garnered a slew of honors including being named as the CVC Player of the Year, to the All-New Jersey Second Team and the All-Area team, which spans both N.J. and Penn. As part of the Notre Dame community, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Latin National Honor Society and received the President's Volunteer Service Award. Dimon's studious efforts have earned her the High Honor Roll recognition each year and the Highest Average Award for Honors Calculus.
Andrea Filler - Bishop Dwenger, SS, Fort Wayner, Ind.
As a junior, Filler produced a blazing .703 batting average - best in the state - to led Bishop Dwenger to the Indiana state championship. The 2010 Indiana Player of the Year also led the state in homeruns (12), triples (11) and doubles (16). Additionally, the captain brought home All-Conference distinctions in 2009 and 2010. Filler led her club team, the Indiana Shockwaves, to four National Softball Association (NSA) titles and a fourth place finish at American Softball Association (ASA) nationals in 2009. This past year, she was inducted into the NSA Hall of Fame. At Bishop Dwenger, Filler has been a four-year member of the Saints on the Move, served as a BD Ambassador and peer mediator, while also achieving honor roll distinctions each year of high school. Her efforts in the community also led her to receive the Mother Theresa Award for service to others.
Annie Sommers - Marantha, CF, Pasadena, Calif.
Sommers is currently a standout infielder for Marantha High School and the SVG Arsenal club teams. She led her teams to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) semifinals in 2009 and the quarterfinals in 2010. Over the past three seasons, Sommers posted stellar batting averages of .463, .500 and .505 and averaged more than 34 runs scored each year. Her dominant performances brought her recognition as an All-CIF, All-Area and All-League selection. Also a standout on the pitch, Sommers earned All-League honors as the soccer team captain in her junior and senior seasons.
