Women's Soccer Falls To Stanford, 2-0

The Boston College women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-0 loss to Stanford in the semifinal of the College Cup in Cary, North Carolina. The Eagles end the season at 17-7-1, while Stanford improved to 23-0-2. Stanford will play Notre Dame in the final on Sunday, Dec. 5 at noon.
Stanford scored two second half goals to earn the win. The first goal came off the foot of Camille Levin who shot from 22-yards out, went directly into the top right corner to a 1-0 lead at 47:24.
In the 87th minute, Lindsay Taylor intercepted a pass and broke in one-on-one against Mastroianni. Lindsay struck the ball to the near post for a Stanford 2-0 lead.
BC's best chance came in the 76th minute when Alaina Beyar sent a dangerous ball to the far post. Kristen Mewis flicked the ball towards the ball and the Stanford keeper Emily Oliver bobbled the ball. On the rebound Hannah Cerrone came in the week side and put a foot on the loose ball, only to have the shot go high over the crossbar.
Cerrone had another great chance when Mewis caught her making a run up the right sideline. Stanford closed in on Cerrone, who sent a shot in right at the keeper.
The Eagles held Stanford scoreless in the half, despite giving up seven shots. Mastroianni had three saves, including a kick save in the 19th minute off Christen Press.
BC had a corner kick early in the half but could not convert as the Stanford goalkeeper Emily Oliver punched out Hannah Cerrone's offering.
Press had Stanford's best chance when she broke through two BC defenders and had a shot from seven yards out. Mastroianni came out and made a kick save to keep the game tied, 0-0.
Game Notes:
The Eagles finished the season 17-7-1 ... Hannah Cerrone will graduate as the all-time leader in games played with 91. The previous high was held by Kelly Henderson '10 with 89 ... Kristen Mewis led the Eagles offense with four shots, two on goal .After not getting a shot off in the first half, BC outshot Stanford, 9-5 in the second half .. Earlier in the day, Kristen Mewis was named to the NSCAA All-America first team, while Victoria DiMartino earned fourth team honors.
