Kristen Mewis Named To NSCAA All-America First Team

Cary, NC - Boston College sophomores Kristen Mewis and Victoria DiMartino were named to the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Women's NCAA Division 1 All-America Team as announced today by the National Soccer Coaches Athletics Association.
Mewis, a native of Hanson, MA, earned first team honors, while DiMartino, a native of Massapequa Park, NY, was named to the fourth team. This is a first time honor for Mewis, while DiMartino earned first team honors last season.
Mewis and DiMartino are two of nine players on the list participating in the Women's College Cup this weekend in Cary, North Carolina. Notre Dame has two players - Lauren Folkes and Melissa Henderson, Ohio State with two (Cassie Dickerson and Paige Maxwell) while Stanford had three (Christine Press, Teresa Noyola and Courtney Verloo).
The players will be honored at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held at the Hilton Baltimore Hotel on Saturday, Jan. 15, as part of the 2011 NSCAA Convention.
GAME TIME
The Boston College women's soccer team will play Stanford in the College Cup semifinal round at WakeMed Soccer Park tonight at 6:30 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPNU. This is the Eagles first trip to the Women's Soccer College Cup in the history of the program.
MEWIS NAMED TO TOP 15
Kristen Mewis was also named to the final15 semifinalists for the 2010 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer. Mewis, who is the Eagles second leading scorer with 10 goals and 14 assists for a career-high 34 points, was also an All-ACC first team selection this season. Head coaches of Division I programs with current membership in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) will vote to determine the 2010 MAC Hermann Trophy recipient. Three finalists for the award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 10. They will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis for a news conference on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, where the winner will be announced. A dinner and formal presentation of the award will follow the news conference that evening.
CORNER KICKS
Goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni has picked up two shutouts in the Eagles tournament run. She has nine this season and is just four shutouts away from tying the program record held by Courtney Schaeffer at 37 ... Mastroianni, who is 7-2 in NCAA action, had five saves in the win over Washington and was named to the Top Drawer Team of the Week along with teammate Hannah Cerrone ... BC has outscored its opponents 10-2 in the NCAA Tournament.
THE COACH
Alison Foley is in her 14th season as the head coach of the Boston College women's soccer program. Foley, the winningest coach in program history, has led the team to 10 NCAA Tournaments, eight consecutive appearances, two Elite Eights and the programs first Final Four appearance. She is currently 189-88-26 in her career at BC.
