Kristen Mewis Named Soccer America MVP

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- Boston College women's soccer team had two players earn honors from Soccer America this week. Sophomore Kristen Mewis was named a first team Soccer America MVP list, while sophomore Victoria DiMartino earned second team honors.
For Mewis this is an exciting week as she was just named to the US National Women's team training camp roster next month in California.
Mewis, a native of Hanson, MA, was the Eagles second leading scorer with 10 goals and 14 assists for a career-high 34 points. She set a new program record by notching a goal or an assist in 11 consecutive games this past season. Mewis, an All-ACC first team selection, was also a Top 15 finalist for the 2010 Hermann Trophy.
Victoria DiMartino, a native of Massapequa Park, NY, led BC in scoring with 14 goals and seven assists for 35 points. DiMartino was a second-team All-ACC selection and put together a seven game point scoring streak this past season. DiMartino had three game-winning goals and seven multiple point games this past season.
TEAM NOTES
The Boston College team voted for team captains this past week and goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni and defender Alyssa Pember will lead the team in 2011. Mastroianni, a native of Durham, CT, posted a 0.87 goals-against-average and earned nine shutouts. Pember, a native of Northport, NY, is a key to the success of the Eagles traditional stingy defense.
"Our staff is excited by the selection of Jill and Alyssa. Both have had tremendous success on the playing field and in the classroom since arriving at Boston College,'' said Head Coach Alison Foley. "We believe their commitment to excellence and great leadership skills will be instrumental in guiding us back to the College Cup next year.''
