CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team has announced that senior Carla Tamer and junior Jacqui Moorfield will lead the Eagles as team captains for the upcoming fall 2011 season.
Both players were chosen to lead the team after another successful year at the Heights. Tamer and Moorfield have a wealth of experience on the playing field and are an integral part of the team's success both on and off the field.
Tamer, a back from Frankfurt, Germany, started all 19 games during her junior season. She anchored the defense, registering two crucial defensive saves against Virginia and Connecticut. She also tallied a goal in a critical ACC win against Wake Forest. Tamer's impressive season came after a battle back from a season-ending knee injury as a sophomore.
"Carla had a standout season after recovering from a knee injury which cut her sophomore season in half," Head Coach Ainslee Lamb said. "Her commitment and disciplined approach in her recovery enabled her to immediately have an effect on the team with her play in her return to the field. Prior to her return to the field, the team witnessed an extremely motivated and strong individual striving to get back involved with the team on a daily basis. This earned her a huge amount of respect and set a fine example for her teammates to follow."
Moorfield, another defensive anchor for the Eagles, came to the Eagles from Christchurch, New Zealand and made an immediate impact on the program. Over the past two seasons, she has started in all 39 games and registered six goals, four assists, and one defensive save. This past season, she was crucial to BC's success on corners, netting five goals and three assists including the game-winning goal against New Hampshire. She finishes the season fourth on the team in points (13) and goals (5).
"Jacqui has also had a great season in the backfield and she is a vital part of the team's attack penalty corners and her out-letting ability for an underclassman is hard to match," Lamb said. "Jacqui has led teams in the past and I know that she will provide a great example for the team to follow. Her impact on the team as a person and as a player has elevated her to this role and I know she will flourish."
"I look forward to working with both Carla and Jacqui helping them and the program to higher honors in the coming year. The attributes that they possess as individuals, both on and off the field, portray commitment, hard work, honesty, integrity, and a passion for BC field hockey. Both captains are well respected by their teammates, fellow student athletes, and the coaching staff. I know they will lead the program with a great deal of pride and dignity."
