Women's Soccer Falls In Overtime to Maryland, 1-0

The Boston College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 overtime loss to No. 2 Maryland at WakeMed Soccer Park in the ACC Tournament on Friday night.
"It is unfortunate," BC coach Alison Foley said. "I thought we created good chances, but it has sort of plagued us in all our losses where we couldn't put chances away. If you don't put those way, you are certainly waiting for overtime, and that is going to put you in a tough situation."
Maryland's Danielle Hubka scored with 55 seconds into the overtime period to advance the Terps into the ACC Final on Sunday, Nov. 7 against Wake Forest.
Boston College (13-6-1) will await word on the NCAA Tournament pairings, which are scheduled to be released Monday at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Eagles entered the ACC Championship with an RPI of 6 with wins over Boston University, Hofstra, Rutgers, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Virginia as well as a tie against Stanford.
BC's best chance in the second half came when Kristen Mewis and Victoria DiMartino completed a give and go in the Maryland box. Mewis had a shot from just inside the box and sent the ball wide at the 54 minute mark of the match.
The Terps (17-2-1) had a great chance from the foot of Lydia Hastings but BC's goalkeeper r Jillian Mastroianni came up with the save. She finished the match with four saves.
The Eagles opened the first half earning three corner kicks. Junior Julia Bouchelle had the best chance as her shot from 19 yards out hit the cross bar just five minutes into the game.
Maryland's best shot came off the foot of Ashley Grove who tipped a long shot towards the goal. The ball skidded but BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni smothered the shot at the 31 minute mark.
Game Notes:
• BC made a five substitutions in the first half as Maddie Payne, Jill MacNeill, Patrice Vettori, Kate McCarthy and Stephanie Wirth all logged minutes. McCarthy and Wirth had 18 minutes apiece. • BC is now 13-6-1 on the season. • The Eagles had six players - Jill Mastroianni, Chelsea Regan, Alyssa Pember, Natalie Crutchfield, Alaina Beyar and Kristie Mewis - compete for the full 91 minutes. • BC held the edge in shots, 15-11, while the Terps had four corner kicks to BC's three. • Freshman Zoe Lombard logged 20 minutes on defense. It is the first time this season the Florida native has played two consecutive games.
