The 2010 Boston College Women's Soccer team will host Washington on Saturday, November 27 at the Newton Soccer Field in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament (4 p.m.). It is the second consecutive season the Eagles have reached the Elite Eight.
How BC Arrived
Boston College finished the regular season at 13-5-1. The Eagles defeated Virginia, 1-0, in the first round of the ACC Tournament. In the second game, Boston College lost in overtime to Maryland, 1-0.
In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Boston College defeated cross-town rival Boston University, 2-1, behind goals from Victoria DiMartino and Julia Bouchelle. In the second round match, Boston College cruised to a 3-1 win over Hofstra. Kristie Mewis has a goal and an assists, while freshman Zoe Lombard notched her first career goal.
In the Sweet 16 game against West Virginia, the Eagles scoring touch returned as they rolled to a 4-0 victory. Brooke Knowlton had two goals, while Julia Bouchelle and Victoria DiMartino also scored. Kristie Mewis had two assists in the match. It was also Jillian Mastroianni's eighth shutout off the season.
What About Washington
This is the Huskies second Elite Eight appearance. Washington earned its way into this round by defeating Oklahoma in the first round. The Huskies then stunned No. 1 Portland in overtime to advanced to the Sweet 16. The Huskies all-time record prior to the match against Portland was 23-2-2.
In the third round, Washington defeated UC Irvine in double-overtime. Freshman Allie Beahan scored the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute of the match.
Eagles Notes:
- The 2010 NCAA Tournament marks the eighth straight season and 10th time overall the Eagles have earned an NCAA Championship berth.
- BC is 17-12-3 in the NCAA Tournament. The senior class is 8-2-1 in the NCAA Tournament.
- Brooke Knowlton was Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week on Nov. 22. Knowlton earned the honor for scoring two goals in the Eagles win over West Virginia.
- Kristen Mewis and Hannah Cerrone also earned honors last week. Hannah was named to the TDS Team of the Week, while Mewis earned CollegeSoccer360 Primetime Players of the Week honors.
- Kristen Mewis and Victoria DiMartino were named to the Top Drawer Soccer Women's Team of the Season, second team. Both players earned All-ACC first team honors earlier this month.
