Women's Hockey Preview: St. Lawrence

The sixth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team will travel to St. Lawrence in Canton, N.Y. to take on the Saints in a weekend series, with games slated for Friday, November 12 at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. Currently the all-time series is split 9-9-2.
Looking Back
Last time out, BC lost to St. Lawrence 4-0 on January 15 at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The visitors attacked BC with firepower and tallied the first goal of the game at 15:45 of the first period. Neither team would find the net in the second period, as BC held St. Lawrence to only eight shots with no penalties committed in the frame. The matchup tilted more to the Saints in the third period as they recorded goals at the 7:32 and 14:45 mark. A late empty net score ended the game at 4-0 in favor of the Saints. Kiera Kingston provided strong support for the Eagles in net, stopping 40 of the 44 shots she faced on the day. The Saints outshot the Eagles 44-16 in the contest.
Last Week
The Eagles played two conference games last week, traveling across town to Northeastern on November 3 and then hosting Vermont on November 7. BC maintained its no-loss season with a 3-1 win at the Huskies and a 2-2 tie at home against the Catamounts. Despite a scoreless first period for the Eagles after the Huskies lit the lamp at 15:46, BC was able to start a comeback with a power play goal from Mary Restuccia 26 seconds into second period play off a pass from Kelli Stack and Jessica Martino. A few minutes later, Stack assisted on her second goal of the game when Taylor Wasylk found the back of the net on another power play at 2:48. Restuccia also assisted on the goal. The finishing touch came from freshman Danielle Doherty at 12:30 in the second period, assisted by fellow freshman Melissa Bizzari. Against Vermont, BC fell behind early as the Catamounts capitalized on their second shot of the game. The Eagles were unable to respond until the second period when Kelli Stack scored at 8:02 to tie the game. The rest of the period amounted to a back-and-forth battle as the Catamounts tallied a second goal at 9:18 only to be answered by Stack once again at 9:43 to end the second frame tied 2-2.
Who's Hot
Kelli Stack (11-8-19) has scored points in every game this season, and has scored at least one goal in eight. Her impressive stats led her to a Hockey East Player of the Week award on November 1 and Player of the Month honors for October. Kiera Kingston made her first start this season and turned away 20 shots to help BC to a 2-2 tie against Vermont on November 7. Danielle Doherty scored her first collegiate goal at Northeastern on November 3. Mary Restuccia and Stack are tied for first in assists, with eight each.
Missing In Action
The Eagles played without two of their starters on November 7 against Vermont - senior captain and goaltender Molly Schaus and freshmen defender Meagan Mangene. These two players joined former Eagle Allie Thunstrom ('09) in Brunswick, Maine for training camp from October 31-November 6 in preparation for the 2010 Four Nations Cup. Schaus and Mangene will play for the U.S. Women's Select Team at the Cup, held in St. John's, N.L. from November 9-13 where the squad will compete against Sweden, Canada, and Finland. These Eagles will be missing in action this weekend at St. Lawrence.
