Newton, MA - The Boston College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to ACC rival Florida State in front of 676 fans on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Field. The Eagles finish the regular season at 5-5-0 in the ACC and 12-5-1 overall, while FSU is 13-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the conference.
The Eagles played a solid first half with Boston College holding an 8-5 edge in shots. The Eagles best chance came when Brooke Knowlton slipped Victoria DiMartino the ball in the box. DiMartino's shot was blocked by a defender.
In the second half Boston College was hurt by a hand ball in the box. FSU had a set piece and on the 50-50 ball Victoria DiMartino and a Seminoles player battled for the loose ball. DiMartino inadvertently hit the ball with her hand in the box. FSU's Tori Pressley penalty kick went to the middle when BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni guessed to her left.
The Eagles kept applying the pressure earning a number of great chances. Junior Julia Bouchelle struck a ball from the 18 yard box and hit the crossbar. The rebound bounced out and was cleared by the FSU defender.
BC then earned two straight corner kicks in the 69 minute mark. Cerrone's first corner kick went long but the second ball was headed back into the box. Kristen Mewis settled the bouncing ball and hit the cross bar for the second straight game.
The Eagles offense was led by Mewis and Victoria DiMartino with five shots apiece. Hannah Cerrone and Julia Bouchelle each had two shots. Mastroianni finished with five saves in the match.
BC held the edge in shots, 16-10, while earning nine corner kicks to zero for FSU.

Prior to the start of the today's match the BC program honored six seniors - Hannah Cerrone, Chelsea Regan, Amy Caldwell, Brooke Knowlton, Natalie Crutchfield and Jill MacNeill ... ... MacNeill earned her first career start, while Cerrone played in 85 consecutive games ... The Eagles will travel to Cary, North Carolina to play in the ACC Tournament. Four games will be played on Wednesday with the first match starting at noon.
