No. 10 Women's Soccer Tames Red Foxes, 4-0

Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College junior forward Brooke Knowlton scored two goals as Boston College improved to 5-0 with a 4-0 victory over non-conference foe Marist College on Friday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Field. The Eagles will play next on Sunday, September 13 when as they will host Long Beach State at 1 p.m.
The Eagles outshot the Red Foxes, 30-3, including 18 in the first half. The Eagles also had 12 corner kicks to two for Marist.
Boston College freshman Victoria DiMartino set up the first goal on a shot which hit the post. DiMartino's rebound went straight to the top of the box where Brooke Knowlton one-time the ball into an open goal for a 1- 0 BC lead. It was Knowlton's third goal of the season.
Senior forward Gina DiMartino made it 2-0 at 18:39 in the first half, when she took a shot from 25-yards out and placed it in the upper left corner. It would be Gina DiMartino's second goal of the season.
Freshman Kristen Mewis almost gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead when she drilled a shot from 30-yards out. The shot clanged off the crossbar and the Red Foxes cleared the loose ball out of the box. Minutes later, Knowlton gave BC the 3-0 lead as she was sent in the box on a beautiful lofted pass over the defense from Gina DiMartino.
Knowlton settled the ball and placed it by the Marist goalkeeper with three minutes to play in the half. Knowlton now has four goals and one assist for nine points this season.
BC's fourth goal came in the second half when Kelly Henderson struck for her first goal of the season. Off a set piece, Hannah Cerrone sent the ball to the far post where Henderson out jumped everyone for the ball and headed it by the keeper.
Game Notes: Junior Amy Caldwell and sophomore Stephanie Wirth both returned to the lineup. It was Caldwell's first appearance while Wirth missed the last two games...A number of players made season debut's including Jessica Petznick, Morgan Hiler and senior goalkeeper Laura Harvey...Harvey recorded nine minutes of playing time and made her first career save late in the second half...BC is unscored on in the first five games of the season (450 scoreless minutes played). In 2007, the Eagles went five games (from Sept. 14- Sept.30, 3-0-2) without letting up a goal. In 2005 Boston College did not yield a goal until the eight game in a 2-1 win over Clemson on Sept. 25. BC opened the season with an 8-0-1 record...Hannah Cerrone assisted on the fourth goal, extending her point-scoring streak to five games. She now has one goal and five assists for seven points...This was Gina DiMartino's first multiple point game with a goal and one assist. She now has seven points (two goals, three assists) this season and 55 career points.
