Women's Soccer Players Summer Update

Chestnut Hill, MA - A number of players from the Boston College women's soccer team have been quite busy this summer. Senior captain Kelly Henderson, junior Hannah Cerrone, sophomore Alyssa Pember, sophomore Alaina Beyar, sophomore Jillian Mastroianni and soon-to-be freshman Victoria DiMartino are all members of the Long Island Fury, which captured the 2009 WPSL Championship on Sunday, August 2 in Garden City, NY.
The Fury (15-0-1) defeated California Ajax America (15-3-1), 1-0, behind a goal by Molly Bruh off a free kick. DiMartino was tripped outside the box and the Fury earned a free kick which ended up being the lone goal of the game.
The Fury defeated Dallas Premier, 3-0, on August 1 in the semifinal game. Henderson and DiMartino each notched a goal in the win.
Henderson, Pember and Beyar were all members of the Fury's first WPSL Championship in 2006.
The 2009 All-East First Team players were also named as Boston College was well represented. First team members were Vicki DiMartino, Kelly Henderson, Jenny Maurer BC '07 (NE Mutiny) and Alyssa Pember. Alaina Beyar was a member of the All-East second team, while DiMartino and Pember were Co-Player of the Year honorees.
DiMartino and Pember were named to the 2009 All-WPSL first team, while Henderson and Maurer earned second team honors.
Corner Kicks:
Senior goalkeeper Mae Shamir, a native of Natick, MA, will attend training camp in Belarus for the Israel Women's National Team. The camp will run from August 11-19. She will also play for the team in the UEFA Women's Qualifying Championship from Sept. 14-26 ... Incoming freshman Kristen Mewis trained with the Under-20 Women's National team in June. The US team defeated the English Under-20's 4-1 on June 22 in Flensburg, Germany. The US played the host team Germany in Hamburg, on June 26. The two teams battled in a 2-2 match.
