Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's basketball team will participate in three non-conference tournaments along with 14 challenging ACC games in the upcoming 2009-10 season. According to the schedule released today by the conference office, the Eagles will not only play in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge but also the SMU Tournament in Dallas, Texas, the Maggie Dixon Classic in New York and the San Diego Surf'N Slam in California.
The Eagles will also face four New England rivals - playing at Harvard in the season opener on Nov. 14, hosting Vermont on Nov. 22, hosting Holy Cross on Nov. 24 and Boston University on Jan. 3.
After the season opener on Nov. 14 at Harvard, Boston College will travel to New Jersey to take on perennial Big East power Rutgers on Nov. 19. After hosting two games at home, the Eagles will set off for the first tournament during Thanksgiving break as the team will open up against Fresno State on Nov. 27 in the SMU Tournament in Texas. The other two teams in the tournament are host SMU and Hampton.
Boston College will have little time to recover as the team will head to Iowa for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday, December 2. BC is 8-17 against Big 10 competition but has never played Iowa.
After hosting Monmouth on Dec. 5, the Eagles will host Michigan, another Big Ten team. BC and the Wolverines have played once, on Dec. 1, 1991 as Michigan won, 86-67. Again, the Eagles will have very little time to rest as they will head to New York to compete in the Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Eagles will play Baylor, which finished the season ranked sixth in the country.
Boston College will fly to the west coast to play in the Surf'N Slam Tournament in San Diego. The Eagles will open up against highly regarded California, which finished last season as the No. 10 team in the country. The other two teams in the tournament are host San Diego and Nevada.
The ACC schedule will begin after two home games against BU and Dartmouth. BC will open up on Jan. 10 when the Eagles host NC State. BC has seven home ACC games including Georgia Tech, Virginia, Miami, Wake Forest, Duke, and Maryland.
