Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey program is welcoming its newest member to the team this fall, assistant coach Meghan Wheeler.
She comes to the Heights after playing midfield for the Huskies of the University of Connecticut for four years. Wheeler will look to contribute right away to Coach Lamb's staff as she will provide valuable game experience to the BC players.
"Meghan is an accomplished player at both the high school and collegiate levels," Head Coach Ainslee Lamb said. "Her approach to the game has always impressed me, and her experiences of being involved with an elite college program at UConn will immediately make us a better coaching staff and contribute to the teams' national goals. I have known Meghan, and her family for many years. I know that we are gaining an excellent player, wonderful person and motivated coach to our staff."
Wheeler amassed an impressive career resume while playing for the Huskies. She helped lead her team to a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season title, and an NCAA Tournament Appearance in her senior season. For her career she started 91 games totaling 26 points on five goals, and 16 assists.
The Canton, Mass., native was a two time All-Mideast Region Second Team selection. She was also named ALL-BIG EAST first team as a junior, and ALL-BIG EAST second team as a senior. Wheeler was a member of the under-21 U.S. National Field Hockey Team this summer. Wheeler, along with several other BC field hockey players, played for the New England High Performance Team this summer that competed in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was also just recently named to the U.S. National Field Hockey Team development squad.
Wheeler played her high school field hockey for Canton High School, and was named the 2004 Boston Globe Field Hockey Player of the Year.
