Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's soccer team will welcome six new players for the 2009 campaign. This week, TopDrawerSoccer.com ranked the recruiting classes for the ACC and Boston College placed second behind North Carolina.
The Eagles incoming class includes Kristen Mewis, Victoria DiMartino, Maddie Payne, Alicia Blose, Morgan Hiler and Jessica Petznick. According to TopDrawerSoccer.com, "the signing of Kristen Mewis and Victoria DiMartino is the best tandem pickup of any program in the country".
Both Mewis and DiMartino played on the Under-17 World Cup team which earned a silver medal in 2008. Mewis, who is a native of Hanson, Mass., is ranked as the No. 1 recruit by TopDrawerSoccer.com. She was the recipient of the NSCAA's Girls Youth Player of the Year award in January of 2009. DiMartino, a native of Massapequa, NY, is ranked as the fourth top recruit. She earned the Silver Boot at the Under-17 World Cup Competition last year. Victoria is the younger sister of Boston College senior forward/midfielder Gina DiMartino.
Payne, a native of Menlo Park, Calif., was named the San Jose Mercury News Player of the Year. She led her team in scoring as a junior and senior. She was a member of the Regional IV Pool in 2008 and played for the Region IV ODP Championship.
Blose, a native of Mill Valley, Calif., played at Tamalpais High which finished ranked No. 13 in the nation with a 20-1-2 record. She was the team MVP and Marin Independent Journal Player of the Year.
Hiler, a native of South Bend, IN, is a two-time All-Conference All-Star and 2008 All-District first team selection. Hiler is the younger sister of former Boston College midfielder Caitlin Hiler.
Petznick, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., was recently named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona. She is a four-year starter at Xavier Prep and helped her team capture the state championship in 2009.
