Chestnut Hill, Mass - The Boston College field hockey team celebrated the accomplishments of the 2008 season and looked to the future at their annual banquet held this past Saturday.
The banquet was the end of a busy spring tournament schedule for the Eagles highlighted by the BCFH Alumnae Game that was held on Saturday afternoon.
The game featured many former members of the BC family from the eight seniors who will graduate this May to former student-athletes who last donned the maroon and gold 18 years ago. Among those in attendance were Jill Dedman, former goalie and member of the USA National Team, as well as recent graduates Brenna Leahy, Caitlyn Young, Mary DeFilippo, Lauren Hill and Bronwen Evans
The night was a celebration of the eight members of the graduating senior class and the accomplishments of a successful fall campaign and strong showing in the off-season tournaments. Student-athletes, their parents, all four coaches and many of the administrators and support staff that help the program run efficiently were in attendance.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the team awards with three seniors and one freshman receiving accolades from their coaches and fellow teammates.
Seniors Julia Berkowitz and Bob Dirks were presented with the coaching award, presented by the coaching to staff to a member (s) of the field hockey team who exemplifies principles, direction and persistence in pursuit of field hockey excellence at Boston College.
Fellow senior Katie Quaglia was presented with the Players Award, presented by the team to the player that exemplifies a teammate, scholar and athlete. The recipient is a Boston College field hockey role model that contributes to all aspects and accepts responsibility with tremendous pride and honor.
Freshman Kate Gillis was honored with the Senior Award, presented by the senior class to the first year member of the team who provides a positive contribution to the team's philosophy and whose individual character encourages the future direction and excellence of Boston College field hockey.
"The banquet allows the staff to honor the individual and team accomplishments from the fall, thank the incredible support staff at BC and praise the parents for their unconditional support of their daughters and the BC program," said Head Coach Ainslee Lamb.
The Eagles will return to action in the fall of 2009 looking to continue the success of the 2008 season and add new accomplishments to the BC record books.
