Senior guard Tyrese Rice earned team MVP honors and sophomore guard Biko Paris captured the Frank Power Memorial Award, highlighting the program's year-end Roundball Club Banquet. The event was held at the Newton Marriott on Sunday, April 26.
Rice earned All-ACC second-team honors after averaging 16.9 points, 5.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game this past season. The Richmond, Va., resident ranked among league leaders in: scoring (eighth, 18.2 ppg), assists (third, 4.8), free-throw percentage (third, .878) and minutes played (eighth, 34.4).
Paris averaged 3.4 points and 1.7 assists per game this past season. The New Orleans, La., resident played in all 34 games, making one start, in 2008-09.
In addition to Rice and Paris, five other individuals were recognized at the banquet. Sophomore Cortney Dunn captured Most Improved Player honors; sophomores Corey Raji and Rakim Sanders shared Best Defensive Player honors; junior Tyler Roche and sophomore Joe Trapani shared the team's Academic Award; Trapani captured Top Rebounder honors; Roche and sophomore Josh Southern shared the Coaches' Award; and senior Mike Swets earned the Mary Kay Waldron Managers' Award.
Boston College finished the 2008-09 season with a 22-12 mark, including a 9-7 record in Atlantic Coast Conference action. BC earned its seventh NCAA Tournament bid in the last nine years.
Third-year Roundball Club president Mike Dunn welcomed guests at the festivities. Fr. Tony Penna offered the invocation, before the radio voice of the Eagles, Ted Sarandis, took over as the master of ceremonies.
