
Stack and Schaus Win Gold at World Championships

Hameenlinna, Finland - Rising seniors Molly Schaus and Kelli Stack, members of the Boston College women's ice hockey team were part of the U.S. National Team that successfully defended their gold medal in the 2009 IIHF Women's World Championship in Finland on Sunday. Team USA defeated Canada 4-1 in the gold medal game to capture their third title in four years.
The U.S. team finished the tournament with a 4-0-0-1 record and now holds the No. 1 world ranking for the first time since the system was introduced in 2004.
Schaus, a goaltender from Natick, Mass., tended goal for the Eagles in three games in the tournament picking up her first national team shutout with a 13 save effort against Russia on April 6. She finished the tournament .958 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA.
Stack, a forward from Brooklyn Heights, OH, played in all five games picking up five points (2g, 3a) and finishing with a +2 rating. She was named U.S. Player of the Game for her four point (1g, 3a) effort on April 4 in an 8-0 routing of Japan in the tournaments opening game.
The U.S. team also included fellow Hockey East member Kacey Bellamy a defenseman from the University of New Hampshire.
