Women's Basketball Takes On Miami in ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Boston College women's basketball team earned a seventh seed in the 2009 ACC Tournament. The Eagles (19-10, 7-7) will play No. 10 Miami (13-16, 2-12) on Thursday, March 5 at the Greensboro Coliseum at 6 p.m.
The Eagles and Hurricanes have played twice this season with Boston College coming out on top in both games. In the first game, Boston College defeated Miami, 64-52, behind 14 points from Mickel Picco, while Stefanie Murphy added 12 points and nine rebounds and Carolyn Swords notched 10 points and six rebounds.
The second game was close but it came down to the tandem of Carolyn Swords and Stefanie Murphy as BC earned a 71-64 victory. Swords and Murphy combined for 39 points and 22 rebounds in the victory. It was the third time in two seasons in which both Swords and Murphy notched a double-double in the same game.
The winner of the Boston College/Miami game will play No. 2 seed Florida State at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinal round. BC lost to FSU, 53-64, on Feb. 5. Miami played FSU twice and lost both games.
Team Notes
Sophomore Carolyn Swords was name to the All-ACC second-team, while junior Mickel Picco earned honorable mention honors ... Swords grabbed nine rebounds in the win over NC State on March 1 as the center reached the 500-rebound plateau. Swords is the 17th player in the programs history to enter the 500-Point-500-Rebound Club ... Junior Ayla Brown is just 21 rebounds away from joining the club ... Picco hit four three-pointers in the March 1 victory over NC State. Picco now has 157 career three-pointers and moved into fourth place on the all-time list. She is one behind Clare Droesch who is in third with 158 three's ... Boston College is seventh in the country in assists per game (16.9 a game) ... The team is also 12th in the country in rebound margin at +7.8 ... Swords continues to lead the country in field goal percentage (68.6) ... Picco is 26th in the country in three-pointers made in a game with a 2.6 average per game ... Ayla Brown leads the current roster in career starts. Brown has started 72 games and has played in 90 games ... Sophomore forward Stefanie Murphy has scored 15 points in the last two games. She is also shooting over 85 percent from the free throw line.
