Six Women's Soccer Players Named to NSCAA Regional Team

Chestnut Hill, MA - Six Boston College women's soccer players - Kelly Henderson, Jillian Mastroianni, Kirsten Mewis, Victoria DiMartino, Gina DiMartino and Hannah Cerrone - have been named to the 2009 All-Southeast Region team by the National Coaches Association of America.
Henderson, Mastroianni, Mewis and Victoria DiMartino were named to the first team while Gina DiMartino and Hannah Cerrone earned second team honors.
Henderson, a defender for the 18-4-2 Eagles, started all 24 games. A native of Baldwin, NY, she was the key to the Eagles defense which posted 16 shutouts and held opponents to 13 goals. A second team All-ACC selection, Henderson played center midfield for the Eagles for the first three seasons and moved to the defense to help the team.
She was named a semifinalist for the 2009 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer. Henderson is also a first team NCAA Division 1 All-America selection.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni was named to the All-ACC first team and the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Season as a third team selection. Mastroianni, who was also the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, had an excellent ACC Tournament performance where she had three saves in a shootout and notched 11 saves in a 1-0 loss to UNC.
Mastroianni, who was named to the NSCAA Division 1 All-America second team, finished the season with 14 shutouts and a goal-against-average of 0.53. She now owns the single season record for shutouts at BC (14).
DiMartino, a native of Massapequa Park, New York, led the Eagles in scoring with 14 goals and six assists for 34 total points. An All-ACC first team selection, DiMartino was the ACC Freshman of the Year. She led BC in shots taken (101) and game-winning goals (6). She was also named a 2009 NSCAA Division 1 All-America second team and was the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Mewis, a native of Hanson, MA, demonstrated team play as she graciously stepped in to play three different positions in her first season. Mewis, an ACC All-Freshman team honoree, did manage to score five goals and had six assists for 16 points.
Gina DiMartino, a native of Massapequa Park, NY, had an outstanding season at midfield for the Eagles. A second team All-ACC selection, DiMartino finished the season with eight goals, six assists for 22 points. She ended her four year career at Boston College with 71 points good enough for seventh on the all-time scoring list.
Cerrone, a native of Wappingers Falls, NY, is known as one of the toughest defenders on the Eagles defense. Cerrone, who has started every game since arriving at BC, finished the season with two goals and a career-high nine assists for 13 points, another career-high. She now has 29 career points as a defender.
