Soccer America Honors Women's Soccer Players

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's soccer team continues to receive honors as freshman Victoria DiMartino was named Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Freshman team as announced by Soccer America today.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Matroianni was also honored as she was named to the Soccer America MVP second team. Freshman midfielder Kristen Mewis was also named to the Soccer America All-Freshman first team.
DiMartino, a native of Massapequa Park, New York, was the ACC Freshman of the Year and named to the NSCAA 2009 All-Southeast Region first team. She led the Eagles in scoring with 14 goals and six assists for 34 total points. DiMartino was also an All-ACC first team selection. She led BC in shots taken (101) and game-winning goals (6). DiMartino was a 2009 NSCAA Division 1 All-America second team and was the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni was recently named to the NSCAA 2009 All-Southeast Region first team. A native of Durham, CT, she was also an All-ACC first team and the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Season as a third team selection. Mastroianni, who was also the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, had an excellent ACC Tournament performance where she had three saves in a shootout and notched 11 saves in a 1-0 loss to UNC.
Mastroianni, who was named to the NSCAA Division 1 All-America second team, finished the season with 14 shutouts and a goal-against-average of 0.53. She now owns the single season record for shutouts at BC (14).
Mewis, a native of Hanson, MA, demonstrated team play as she graciously stepped in to play three different positions in her first season. Mewis, an ACC All-Freshman team honoree, did manage to score five goals and had six assists for 16 points. She earned spot on the 2009 NSCAA All-Southeast Region first team.
