On Tuesday, December 1st, the football team took an afternoon off from practice and boarded three buses bound for local destinations. The team, as well Head Coach Frank Spaziani and staff, visited four locations to visit with children in the Boston area.
One group traveled to Canton to visit students at the Massachusetts Hospital School, a residential school that serves children and young adults with multiple disabilities. The students took on the players in a game of wheelchair football, went bowling and received help with homework from the players throughout the afternoon.
The second group took the short drive down Lake Street to visit the after school program at the Oak Square YMCA in Brighton. The student-athletes served as teachers for a day as they helped with homework, played games in the gym and signed autographs.
The West End House after school program in Allston played host to a third group, who played four-square and football, helped with math homework and took part in an exciting dance off between BC and the West End House.
The final group visited the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, a hospital for children that provides medical, behavioral and educational services to children with a variety of mental and physical conditions. The players played basketball and board games and took part in another dance off where a Franciscan patient was crowned the champion.
Boston College student-athletes visit hospitals and local schools several times each month to embrace the mission of "men and women for others" and devote thousands of hours each year to serving the local community.
