Chestnut Hill, MA - Five members of the Boston College women's soccer team have been honored by the league office as announced today.
Freshman Victoria DiMartino has earned the ACC's Freshman of the Year award and was honored with All-ACC first team and All-Freshman team accolades. This marks the first time that sisters have earned the All-ACC Freshman honor as Gina DiMartino picked up the award in 2006.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni was also named to the All-ACC first team, while senior midfielder Gina DiMartino, senior defender Kelly Henderson and freshman midfielder Kristen Mewis earned All-ACC second team honors. Mewis was also named to the All-ACC Freshman team.
Victoria DiMartino, a native of Massapequa, New York, leads the Eagles in scoring with 14 goals and four assists for 32 total points. She also leads the team in shots taken (84) and game-winning goals (6).
Mastroianni, a native of Durham, Conn., has started all 18 games in goal for the Eagles. She has posted 10 shutouts and has a goals-against-average of 0.49. Mastroianni was an All-ACC Freshman team and All-ACC second team selection last season.
Gina DiMartino is the Eagles second leading scorer with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. She is a two-time Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List selection. DiMartino has notched two game-winning goals this season.
Henderson, a native of Baldwin, NY, proved the ultimate team player - after playing three seasons at center midfield, Henderson moved to the backline to help the team bolster defense. She has made the move with ease and the team has held opponents to just nine goals this season, fifth lowest in the nation.
Mewis, a native of Hanson, MA, has also displayed team play as she has played three different positions in her first season. Mewis has managed to notched five goals and six assists for 16 points despite playing defense the last five games of the season.
The Eagles, the second seed in the ACC Tournament, return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 4 versus second-seeded Virginia at Cary's WakeMed Soccer Park (5 p.m.).
