Women's Basketball Falls To Rutgers, 59-53

Piscataway, NJ - The Boston College women's basketball team fell to Rutgers, 59-53, in front of 2,905 fans at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Thursday night. Boston College is now 0-2 on the season, while Rutgers improved to 2-1.
A steal by Rutgers at the two minute mark resulted in a layup by Brittany Ray extending the lead to 56-48. BC had just cut in to the lead with a layup by Carolyn Swords at 2:48 in the game. Two missed three-pointers with under a minute to play halted the Eagles comeback attempt.
Rutgers came out in the second half on a 9-2 run to extend the lead at 14:40. In that run, BC shot 0-for-9 from the field and had three turnovers in that run.
Stefanie Murphy broke the cold streak at 14:03 on an offensive rebound and put back. It started an Eagles seven point run to cut into the Rutgers lead, 38-36, at 11:50 to play.
BC had a 16-6 lead in the first half that was sparked by two three-pointers from senior Brittanny Johnson. Rutgers slowly chipped away at the Eagles lead when both Carolyn Swords and Stefanie Murphy had to sit due to foul trouble.
At 2:29 in the half, Rutgers tied the game a 22-22 on a turnaround jumper from Chelsey Lee. The lead changed hands four times in the final minute of play as Rutgers took a 27-25 lead into the locker room on a three-pointer from April Sykes.
Murphy led the Eagles with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Johnson, Swords and Ayla Brown had seven points apiece. Jasmine Gill added seven points and eight rebounds in the loss. The host Eagles outrebounded the Rutgers, .
Rutgers was led by Sykes with 16 points.
