Women's Tennis Competes In ITA Regional Championships

The Boston College women's tennis team competed in their last tournament of the fall season this past weekend at the five-day ITA Regional Championships in New Haven, CT.
Katharine Attwell got a bye in the first round which moved her into the round of 64. Attwell then went on to lose to Blakely Ashley from Princeton in a hard-fought match 7-5, 6-1.
Freshman Ina Kauppila won her first-round match over Katherine Hanson from Stony Brook 1-6, 7-6(7), 6-4. She then went on to fall in the second-round to the number three seed Hideko Tachibana from Harvard 6-1, 6-0
Freshman Alex Kelleher won her first round match 6-0 6-0 against Rebecca McMllin. Kelleher then ran into the number 13 seed in the round of 64 and fell 6-2, 6-1.
Katarina Gajic made the best singles run for the Eagles as she was seeded 15th in the tournament. She advanced all the way to the round of 16 before falling to the number two seed Holly Cao from Harvard.
Kelleher and Olga Khmylev were the number six seed in doubles action and made it all the way to the quarter-finals before losing 9-7 to the number one seed in the tournament.
Boston College will continue their 2009-10 season in the spring as they will take on Yale University on January 23.
