Chestnut Hill, MA -
The Boston College women's basketball team opened the 2009-10 season with the first official practice in Power Gym at 8:30 a.m.
The Eagles 10 players took the floor five minutes before practice to get some extra work in before the official practice took over. The players ran through some layup and running drills to prepare.
Second year coach Sylvia Crawley called the team in at 8:30 a.m. and talked about the practice plan and what to expect. Seconds later the team along with three practice players were running through drills to start the new season.
The Eagles have 10 players on the roster including captains - graduate student Brittanny Johnson and junior Carolyn Swords. For Johnson being on the floor practicing early is a joy as the guard underwent major jaw surgery at the end of the 2009 season.
Other returning players include seniors Ayla Brown and Mickel Picco and juniors Swords, Stefanie Murphy and Jaclyn Thoman. Sophomore Jasmine Gill returns along with freshman Kerri Shields, Kelsey Reynolds and Mary Nwachukwu.
Boston College will open up the season on Saturday, November 14 against cross-town rival Harvard in Cambridge. The Eagles and Crimson will play at 6 p.m. BC will then go on the road to play highly-touted Rutgers on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
