Flushing Meadows, N.Y. - The Boston College women's tennis team competed in their third tournament to start the 2009-10 season this past weekend at the three-day USTA Women's College Invitational.
The Eagles looked very sharp in doubles action as the freshman team of Olga Khmylev and Alex Kelleher advanced all the way up to the A-Flight doubles finals before withdrawing due to injury. Khmylev and Kelleher made their mark even before they got to the finals as they beat the number two seeded team in the flight in the round of 16.
Khmylev also impressed in B-Flight singles action as she posted a win over third seeded Jennifer Holzberg on her way to advancing to the semi-finals. Khymlev lost to the number two seed 6-2, 6-0 in the semi-final round.
Kelleher also advanced to the semi-finals in the C-Flight singles draw before losing in the semis 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Katharine Attwell lost in the quarterfinals of the D-Flight singles draw to third-seeded Ashley Miller 6-4, 6-4.
The Eagles are back in action when they travel to New Haven, CT to play in the ITA Regional Championships on October 23-27.
